DAY TRIP FROM ROME: ANAGNI AND WINE TASTING
Tour Description
The medieval town of Anagni, known as the “City of Popes' ' because it is the birthplace of several Popes and has been papal residence for a long time. It was here that Pope Boniface VIII, the Pope that instituted the First Jubilee, was imprisoned when he excommunicated the French king Philip the Fair in 1303. Here you will tour the cathedral, with its hidden treasure: the crypt beneath, defined “the Sistine Chapel of Medieval Times' ' with its awesome frescoes made by three anonymous “masters' ' in the 1200, preserved in an excellent state.. Then you will be taken to a vineyard for a wine and food tasting and sample pure virgin olive oil on fresh oven baked bread. The winery is located in the beautiful countryside where passionate wine makers combine tradition and innovation thus representing the excellence of the Doc Cesanese del Piglio.
