DAY TRIP TO ORVIETO AND WINE TASTING IN MONTEPULCIANO
Tour Description
From Rome, you will head north through the beautiful countryside of Lazio and Umbria. Driving past the old medieval town of Orte perched on top of cliffs you will stop in Orvieto and walk on your own through the old center. You may enter the Gothic Cathedral with a frescoed Last Judgement to rival Michaelangelo’s, as well as roam through exquisite art galleries and artisan shops featuring locally made crafts. Be sure to not miss the ceramics.
Your drive will continue to Tuscany and to the historical center of Montepulciano. Montepulciano is one of Tuscany’s premier wine-producing areas, here you will take a deep dive into the local wine culture with a winery tour in the hills outside the medieval hill town. You will be given time to explore the cobblestoned streets, to take in the noble residences, medieval churches, fortifications and City Hall square with the high bell tower, the iconic symbol of the town. A wine tasting inside an ancient cellar, described by Bella Italia magazine as the most beautiful in the world. You will have the opportunity to buy wines and olive oils directly from the producer which can be shipped anywhere in the world.
