JEWISH QUARTER

Take a break from the crowds, escape the traffic, and discover an entirely different perspective of Rome. Your guide will lead through the hidden side of the historic center that most tourists don’t even know exists. You will walk along the Tiber River, a symbol of the Roman landscape. Beginning with the Jewis Ghetto founded in 1555, it is one of the most ancient Jewish Quarters in Italy and Europe. It was once surrounded by a wall and housed around 9,000 inhabitants. You will stop and take in the exterior of the monumental Synagogue, the primary symbol of the ghetto built in 1904 . Then your guide will lead over the Ponte Fabricio bridge to Tiberina Island. The island itself offers amazing local views, even without specific monuments. Along with the island’s famous hospital, there are enchanting homes, courtyards, and streets reminiscent of its medieval origins. Other highlights include the Theater of Marcellus, the Fountain of the Turtles.
